Cops release curfew stats
Staff Report
YOUNGSTOWN
Police released statistics Thursday on a curfew sweep they performed Wednesday night and early Thursday.
Chief Rod Foley said officers made 16 stops, issued 10 tickets for curfew violations and made visits to five homes of juveniles termed “at risk” for committing crimes.
The sweep was part of a campaign by Mayor Charles Sammarone, “Do You Know Where Your Children Are?” to cut down on juvenile crime.
City ordinances state curfew is between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. for anyone 17 or younger not accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Those who received tickets can either pay a fine or work it off through community service.
A special detail from the police department along with members of the Mahoning Valley Violent Crimes Task Force took part in Wednesday’s sweep, targeting areas of the South Side where juveniles hang out.
