AP: Tenured Ohio prof sues University of Cincinnati

CINCINNATI (AP) — A tenured professor at the University of Cincinnati who says he’s responsible for securing millions of dollars in federal grants for medical research is suing the school.

Muhammad Ashraf says the university effectively fired him after he rescinded his resignation from the school.

Ashraf wanted to take back his resignation because he says school administrators refused to transfer grants to his next job at a Georgia university.

At a federal court hearing today, Ashraf’s attorneys argued that the dean of Cincinnati’s medical college didn’t have the authority to accept Ashraf’s June 5 resignation, and it’s invalid.

Attorneys for the university argue that Ashraf properly and unconditionally resigned and only wanted to leave the university because an investigation into academic misconduct was launched against him.

Ashraf denies misconduct.
