A Boardman woman who drove her Toyota Camry into a carport at an apartment building on Lemans Drive on July 17 is facing charges.

Dilnoza Parpieva, 23, is charged with driving without a license and reckless operation of a vehicle. She hit the rear wall of the carport while attempting to back up and then struck a metal support column, causing the carport to collapse on a woman and two children, according to a Boardman police report.

Yulduz Parpieva, 52; 2-year-old Mukhammadaziz Mamurjonov; and 1-year-old Muhammadbobur Mamurjonov were in the carport when it collapsed and were taken to the hospital for treatment.

The driver and those injured were said to be a family from Uzbekistan. Police had to call in an interpreter to get the full story from the driver because she did not speak English. Dilnoza told police she only remembered going through the carport once, the vehicle went out of control as she was backing up and then the carport collapsed and she ran to get her husband. Tire marks at the scene lead police to believe the driver made two passes through the carport in reverse, according to the report.

Dilnoza has a hearing at Boardman court next Thursday.
