Youngstown

Due to the Greater Youngstown Italian Festival, these streets will be closed, starting today, through 4 a.m. Sunday: Central Square at Market Street and Wick Avenue between Boardman and Commerce streets; Federal Street between Phelps and Walnut streets; and Champion Street between Commerce and Boardman streets.

The OH WOW! Children’s Center for Science and Technology will remain open and keep normal business hours during the festival. Visitors will have to enter through festival gates beginning Friday. During the festival, parking in front of the museum is prohibited.

OH WOW! will have access to a golf cart for any visitors that need to be picked up from a parking lot. Call 330-744-5914 before your visit to make necessary arrangements.

Roads closing for block parties

YOUNGSTOWN

Community block parties will affect these streets from noon to 9 p.m. Saturday: Shaw Avenue will be closed between Karl Street and Wardle Avenue on the East Side, and Burma Drive will be closed between Normandy and Oran drives on the West Side.

Yard sale

NORTH JACKSON

The Jackson Township Citizens’ Association will host a community yard sale starting at 9 a.m. Friday and Saturday.

The community project will include about 150 known individual sales as well as special offers throughout township businesses. A field at 11349 W. Mahoning Ave. will host more than 100 of the sales and offer free parking. Live music will be by Steve Frazzini.

All funds raised by the association are invested in the community with donations to children’s fire programs, the Kids Kupboard, Jackson-Milton schools, candidate nights, holiday programs and improvements to Jackson Park, the Veterans Memorial and the community water tower.

Composting class to be offered

CANFIELD

The Mahoning County Recycling Division is offering a one-hour composting seminar with video instruction at 1 p.m. Aug. 11 in Classroom A at the Mill Creek MetroParks Farm on state Route 46.

Registrants will receive a backyard composting bin, instructional booklet and troubleshooting guide. The cost of this seminar on recycling organic material is $10 for county residents and $40 for nonresidents. Pre-registration is required by Monday by calling 330-740-2060.

Food giveaway

Warren

A food giveaway for families with children will be offered at Greater Apostolic Faith Church, 3571 Tod Ave., from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today .

The event is sponsored by the Ohio Association of Food Banks and Gov. John Kasich’s committee on community- and faith-based initiatives. Warren City Schools Food Service will distribute the produce.
