Police charged a 17-year-old resident of Wick Street Southeast with carrying a concealed weapon at 9:54 p.m. Friday on South Feederle Drive Southeast after police made contact with two juveniles.

Smart Choice food orders being taken

Niles

New Hope United Methodist Church, 21 Fairview Ave., is accepting orders for Smart Choice food from 4 to 5 p.m. Saturday, 7 to 8 p.m. May 16 and 11 a.m. to noon May 20. The Ohio Direction Card will be accepted May 16 and 20.

Boxes include meat, vegetables, convenience meals, lunch box, chicken tenders, grill box and spare rib box. Prices range from $22 to $36. There are no income restrictions or guidelines. Mail orders will be accepted until May 17 with payment by postal or bank money orders or a certified check addressed to New Hope United Methodist Church. For a receipt, enclose a self- addressed and stamped envelope. Online orders at www.smartchoicefood.com will close at 6 p.m. May 22. A 3 percent handling fee will be added to online orders.

Distribution date is 9 to 10 a.m. June 1. A community breakfast will be served before the distribution from 9 to 10:30 a.m.

Warren officials to meet today

The Engineering, Planning and Building Committee of Warren City Council will meet at 4 p.m. today in the council caucus room at the municipal justice building, 141 South St. SE. A draft regarding signs and updated information on summer road resurfacing and construction will be discussed.

Women report witnessing sex act

Two women reported a man performing a sex act inside of a car parked at Old Navy on U.S. Route 224.

The women said they drove into the parking lot about noon Friday and as they were getting out of the car, they saw a man parked next to them, performing a sex act. The women tried to access their phones to call 911, and one of the women stood in front of the man’s vehicle to try to keep him from leaving. The women told police that the man began driving forward and hitting one of them with his vehicle, trying to leave. She wasn’t injured. The man fled west on Route 224.

Theft complaint

Police were called to Family Dollar on South Avenue for a theft complaint at 6:40 p.m. Sunday.

An employee said he witnessed a female customer walk through the store while concealing several children’s items.

Police approached her after she left the store, but she denied taking the items. After being told she was going to be arrested for theft, she told police she was being harassed by them and began to leave, resisting arrest.

Caroline Tirone, 26, of Loveland Road, Youngstown, is charged with theft and resisting arrest, a police report states.

Workshop planned

The Northeast Ohio Sustainable Communities Consortium will have a workshop at 6:30 p.m. today at Warren John F. Kennedy High School, 2550 Central Parkway Ave. SE, to learn about Northeast Ohio trends.

The core questions to be answered are what the most important issues and priorities to Northeast Ohio are and what should be considered to make Northeast Ohio more vibrant, resilient and sustainable.

Six workshops are taking place across Northeast Ohio through Thursday.

Preschool registration

E.J. Blott Elementary is having preschool registration for its 3-year-olds’ unit for the 2013-14 school year.

Registration packets can be picked up at the school’s office between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Applicants should bring a copy of their W2 or two current pay stubs along with two current proofs of residency.
