Red Cross offers baby-sitter training

POLAND

Boardman Park is offering the Red Cross babysitter training class from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday at New Life Assembly of God, 2250 E. Western Reserve Road.

The cost is $50, with special pricing for Boardman residents. Participants should pack a lunch.

The training teaches boys and girls 11 to 15 skills from how to hold and comfort children to feeding, change diapers, safe play with kids of all ages, how to be safe in the home and first-aid skills such as how to rescue a child who’s choking.

Teen driving school

The Tire Rack Street Survival Teen Driving School is 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at Value City Department Store, 1128 Boardman- Poland Road, Boardman.

Car crashes are the leading killer of American teens age 15 to 20. Simple driving errors cause the majority of fatal accidents. Tire Rack Street Survival is a national driver education program that teaches teens the skills they need to stay alive behind the wheel improving driver competence through hands-on experiences in real-world driving situations.

Tire Rack Street Survival is open to licensed and permitted drivers age 15 to 21. Forms, schedules and information are online at www.streetsurvival.org. The cost is $75 per student. Annual plant sale

Medicare event

Lt. Gov. and Ohio Department of Insurance Director Mary Taylor is offering the Ohio Senior Health Insurance Information Program (OSHIIP) “Welcome to Medicare” event at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Youngstown Senior Center, 1110 5th Ave.

The program offers free Medicare information and counseling, and will help new and soon-to-be beneficiaries understand the basics of Medicare.

There also will be information regarding financial assistance programs that help pay for Medicare’s Part B premium and out-of-pocket expenses associated with prescription drug costs.
