Man dead, two injured by gunfire on North Side

YOUNGSTOWN — A 26-year-old Elm Street man is dead and two other males were injured by gunfire late Monday on the city’s North Side.

Police said Kristopher M. Stuart was found shot dead about 10:30 p.m. Monday on the floor of a front room at his 2127 Elm St. home with a silver revolver lying near his hand.

Police spoke to two neighbors who told officers that they heard a loud argument and then gunfire at Stuart’s home at 9:30 p.m. Also, police spoke to a man who helps take care of Stuart’s dog who was walking past the Elm Street house and noticed the door was open, something that he told officers was not normal.

That man went to a friend’s house and the two entered Stuart’s home about 10:30 p.m. and saw him lying on the floor in a large pool of blood, and then called police.

Meanwhile, police received a call from the St. Elizabeth Health Center about 9:45 p.m. about a shooting victim — Dejuan Thomas, 31, of Osborne Avenue in Youngstown — with multiple gunshot wounds to his chest and torso area. Thomas walked into the emergency room unassisted, said, “I can’t believe he shot me,” and collapsed on the floor.

A police report didn’t state where Thomas was when he was shot.

About 20 minutes later, Kalontae Carter, 22, of Norwood Avenue in Youngstown, arrived at the emergency room with a gunshot wound to his left bicep area, police said.

Carter told police he was in front of his house when a tan car drove by, someone in the vehicle shot him and sped off. Carter said he didn’t know who shot him.

Thomas is in critical but stable condition and Carter is in stable condition.

Police are investigating the shootings, which they believe are likely related, and no arrests have been made as of this morning.
