1988: Dr. Bennett Harrison, a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, tells a crowd of 100 at Youngstown State University that American companies, not foreign competition, are causing the decline of American industry by closing domestic plants and sending as many as a million jobs a year overseas.

A 36-year-old Hanoverton man is sentenced to six months in Columbiana County Jail by Judge Ashley Pike for shooting a chained hound dog with a bow and arrow and then fleeing police.

1973: More than 400 people attend a memorial service at a Stark County pet cemetery for “Dumpy,” the dog who died a month after being gassed and wounded by a Mahoning County dog warden.

Ronald Franks, 39, an off-duty Campbell fireman who left his home to help fight an arson fire on Tenth Street, collapses and dies after fighting the fire for nearly two hours.
