The conditions of three people seriously injured in a two-car crash on U.S. Route 224 in Poland on Saturday have improved.
A total of five people were injured and taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown.
Anthony Lopez, 21, of Pittsburgh, remained in critical condition at the hospital Sunday afternoon, but Theresa Secrest, 70, of Lowellville, was upgraded to intermediate care, according to hospital officials.
Secrest was driving east in a 2006 Cadillac on Route 224 in Poland Township when Lopez attempted to pass her vehicle and the crash occurred. Lopez was westbound in a 2004 Oldsmobile Alero, according to reports from the Ohio State Highway Patrol Canfield Post.
The crash happened about 2:20 p.m. between Struthers and Quarry roads, and police said Lopez’s speed and improper passing caused the crash.
Secrest and Lopez were transported by medical helicopters from the scene.
Heather Michaels of Pittsburgh and Jarrot Moore of New Castle, Pa., both 20, were passengers in the Alero and were seriously injured. Both were upgraded to stable condition at St. Elizabeth’s on Sunday afternoon. A third passenger, a 16-year-old who was not identified, also was seriously injured. Her updated condition could not be obtained Sunday.
Hospital officials said they could not update the conditions of the four adults when called again Sunday evening.
The OSHP in Canfield said Sunday there were no new developments in the investigation.
