Officials, citizens attend session on state’s open records law

YOUNGSTOWN — About 60 to 70 government officials and citizen activists attended a three-plus-hour training session to help them better understand the state’s open-records and open-meetings laws.

The state attorney general’s office conducted the session today at the Newport Branch of the Public Library of Youngstown & Mahoning County on the city’s South Side.

“It can be very confusing when you get a request” for public records, said Youngstown Councilwoman Annie Gillam, D-1st. “It can get complicated. It’s always good to hear it for yourself.”

The bulk of the session focused on open records with about 10 minutes at the end used to discuss open meetings.
