Goshen man dies in fire

Staff report

GOSHEN TOWNSHIP

Firefighters found a man dead after a fire damaged a home in Goshen Township late Saturday.

About 11:45 p.m., firefighters responded to a basement fire at 12061 S. Pricetown Road. While firefighters made their way to the one-story residence, dispatchers alerted them to someone possibly trapped inside the house, according to Bill Hofmann of the Damascus Fire Department.

Three occupants of the residence were able to escape, but after extinguishing the fire, firefighters found the body of a man in the basement, Hofmann said.

“The fire was mainly in the basement, but there was heavy smoke damage to the upstairs,” Hofmann said.

The cause of the fire remains undetermined by the state fire marshal pending a final report from the Mahoning County coroner.

The man’s name has not been released, and representatives from the coroner’s office could not be reached for comment Sunday.

Green and Beloit Township fire departments assisted at the scene, and none of the departments reported any fire crew injuries.
