Islanders are Pens’ first-round opponent

The Pittsburgh Penguins will open the 2013 Stanley Cup Playoffs on Wednesday against the New York Islanders.

Games 1 and 2 will be at Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh.

The Pens, the top seed in the Eastern Conference, have never beaten the Islanders in three playoff series (1975, 1982 and 1993).

Ottawa’s 4-2 win over Boston on Sunday knocked the Islanders into eighth place. The Senators finished seventh and will open against Montreal.

The loss knocked Boston down to fourth place. The Bruins will play Toronto in the first round.
