Leetonia library schedules May events

Staff report

Leetonia

Leetonia Community Public Library, 181 Walnut St., will host events throughout May.

For National Photo Month, guests are asked to bring in photos for a monthlong display of community memories. Five photos, no larger than 8 by 10 inches, are allowed per person. They will be placed on library bulletin boards with straight pins. Photocopies of original pictures are acceptable. The photos will be returned if a name and phone number is provided on the back of the photo.

The library also is pursuing an oral-history project for the Leetonia area with assistance from Justin Hite, an archivist and AmeriCorps volunteer with the Cherry Valley Coke Ovens restoration project. Contact the library at 330-427-6635 to register to be interviewed or to be an interviewer. Hite will provide guidelines and possible questions to give uniformity to the interviews. Individuals from greater Leetonia areas such as Franklin Square and Washingtonville are welcome to participate.

Screen-Free Week will be celebrated through next Saturday, in which individuals will be urged to turn off computer, phone and other electronic screens to enjoy the programs, events, and old and new books provided at the library. The week will kick off with an Open Poetry Reading 6 p.m. Tuesday. Original poems or the work of other poets are both welcome during the reading.
