Fire at lumber yard

Hubbard

Crews from several area fire departments responded to a blaze at a Mount Everett Road lumber yard.

Eagle Joint Fire District, which covers the city and township, got the call for the fire at Babcock Lumber about 9:30 a.m. Friday. Ron Stanish, assistant chief, said firefighters believe a light above the company’s dust-collection system, caused the fire in the ceiling, which was contained to the dust-collection and compressor areas.

It caused between $10,000 and $15,000 in damage. Crews from Liberty, Brookfield, Vienna, Coitsville and the Youngs-town Air Reserve Station also responded. No one was injured.

The case was heard over an eight-day period before visiting Judge Thomas Pokorny in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court. Turkoly’s attorney, Geoffrey Brown of Wheeling, W.V., said his client went in for a minimally invasive procedure and came out with permanent scarring, hair loss and a recurring infection.
