Greeks pull nudes from Qatar art exhibit

ATHENS, Greece

Greece has pulled two ancient statues of nude males from an Olympic exhibition in Doha after Qatari authorities insisted on veiling them.

A Culture Ministry official says exhibition organizers wanted to avoid scandalizing female visitors.

Greek Deputy Culture Minister Costas Tzavaras, who visited the Muslim country last month for the exhibition opening, objected, saying the works should be displayed as they were or shipped home.

So the statues were returned to Athens last week, the official said on condition of anonymity because she was not authorized to speak on the record.

Qatari officials could not immediately be reached to comment Thursday night.

The statues date to the sixth and second centuries B.C. They were among nearly 600 antiquities brought from Greece for the “Olympics — Past and Present” exhibition.

‘Senna’ director plans Winehouse film

LONDON

The director of award-winning film “Senna” is making a documentary about the late soul singer Amy Winehouse.

Focus Features Inter- national says the movie will feature unseen archive footage to tell the story of the art and life of the musician, who died at age 27 in London in 2011 from accidental alcohol poisoning.

The Winehouse family said in a statement Thursday that it had been approached with many documentary proposals, but “Senna” director Asif Kapadia and producer James Gay-Rees presented a vision that would “look at Amy’s story sensitively, honestly and without sensationalizing her.”

“Senna,” the acclaimed 2010 film, focused on the life of Brazilian F1 driver Ayrton Senna.

The champion racer was killed in an accident in 1994.

Rapper 2 Chainz acquitted of charge

EASTON, Md.

Rapper 2 Chainz has been acquitted of drug charges he faced after a traffic stop on Maryland’s Eastern Shore.

The Star Democrat of Easton, Md., reports that a Talbot County district court judge found the rapper, whose real name is Tauheed Epps, not guilty Wednesday.

The Atlanta-based rapper was headed to a college homecoming event in February when state troopers stopped the van he was traveling in.

Police said they searched the car after smelling burnt marijuana and found a marijuana grinder and marijuana inside a backpack.

2 Chainz was cited for having drug paraphernalia and marijuana after police said he claimed the bag.

A security guard testified that in the rush to leave the group’s Baltimore hotel room he had packed the grinder, though he didn’t know who owned it.
