Fitch track teams earn county titles


The Austintown Fitch boys and girls track teams won the Mahoning County championships on April 20 at Canfield with a score of 176.

Ebony Davis was named Mahoning County MVP after winning four events: the 100-meter dash, the 200-meter dash, the 400-meter run and the 4x100-meter run. Top performers placing first for Fitch were Lauren Bower in the 100-meter hurdles, Jayme Ritchie in the 300-meter hurdles, Paige Henley in the pole vaults and Tabreasia Gowdy in the long jump.

Ritchie, Bower, Gowdy and Maddy Miller took first in the 4x200-meter relay. The 4x100-meter relay team consisting of Bower, Miller, Davis and Gowdy also took first.

Bower took second in the 300-meter hurdles. In the 4x800-meter relay, Fitch’s Amanda Choma, Elizabeth Mosier, Diana Yeager and Jaclyn Choma took second place.

Amanda Choma also placed third in the 800-meter run. Adding to the team’s overall score was Henley’s second-place finish in the high jump and long jump and Figeuroa’s third place in the shot put and second in the discus throw.

The boys team finished won the team title with a score of 173. Top performers placing first for Fitch were Sam Ortz in the 110-meter hurdles and the long jump, Billy Price in the shot put and the discus throw, Dylan Laton in the pole vault and Zack Pasquale in the 300-meter hurdles,

The boys 4x100-meter relay team, consisting of Darrin Hall, Gary Gibson, Joe Harrington and Nathan Bowlen, took first. Adding to the team’s victory was Nathan Bowlen’s second-place finish in the 400-meter dash.

Gary Gibson took second, while Bowlen took third in the 100-meter dash. Darrin Hall and Gibson took second and third, respectively, in the 200-meter dash. The 4x800-meter relay team, consisting of Josh Potkanowicz, Zak Patrick, Brandon Starcher and Garen Gibson, placed second, along with the 4x200-meter relay team consisting of Gibson, Hall, Bowlen and Harrington.

Pasquale, Hall, Gibson and Harrington took second in the 4x400-meter relay. Ortz placed second in the high jump.
