CHC upgrades playground equipment

Just in time for spring, students at C.H. Campbell Elementary School have an updated playground, thanks to lots of fundraising and hard work from parent volunteers. Existing playground equipment was upgraded where needed and several new playground pieces were added April 20.
“All our fundraising money was being put aside for new playground equipment. Our students and families have worked hard to raise the money we needed to make our playground better and safer,” said Travis Lavery, C.H. Campbell Elementary School principal.
A group of 25-30 volunteers worked tirelessly the night before the installation putting the new equipment together and then installing the equipment the next day.
New playground equipment included a climbing wall, a mini rock climbing wall, a small climber and a jungle gym. A new set of swings was also added and bike racks were installed for the students.
“We wanted some smaller equipment for the smaller children to enjoy. Some of our existing equipment is too big for them, so we wanted them to have their own gear to play on and have fun with. We added a new swing set to alleviate the wait time for swings during recess,” said Lavery.
The volunteers also updated existing equipment where needed, to make the playground equipment safer for the students.
“We upgraded some equipment, like replacing rings on the monkey bars, due to the usual wear and tear it sees over the years,” Lavery said.
Along with using fundraising profits to fund the project, the school received donations of cement from City Concrete and Jason Paris donated the drainage needed for the expansion. Cocca’s Pizza also donated lunch for the volunteers the day of installation.
