C.H. Campbell Elementary students explore career choices

C.H. Campbell Elementary School students got a bit of a head start learning about the variety of careers available to them during the school’s 14th annual Career Day, which was held April 19.
The event, organized by Diane Dankovich, guidance counselor at C.H. Campbell Elementary and Hilltop Elementary, showcased a variety of careers presented by parent volunteers.
“We are thankful for all our parent volunteers. This is all about the volunteers being able to get to communicate with the students. This event is not about the students choosing a career at this age. We want them to be aware that there are so many different professions they can go into besides being a doctor, lawyer or a professional football player,” Dankovich said.
Exhibitors included a white variety of professionals, including an I.T. analyst, supervisor of the Best Buy Geek Squad, a hotel director of food and beverage, a firefighter and paramedic from the Youngstown Fire Department, a mechanical engineer, a lineman from Ohio Edison, a chemical storekeeper at Youngstown State University, PGA golf pro from Diamond Back Golf Course, Austintown school teacher, intervention specialist and football coach, YSU professor of electrical engineering, YSU psychologist, banker from PNC Bank, a librarian, a doctor of family medicine, a teacher, Youngstown police offer and SWAT team member, a contractor and an industrial engineer.
Most of the displays by the volunteers were interactive and many exhibitors brought items with them to help them explain more clearly what their job entails, along with some souvenirs for the children to take home.
“The educational displays that our parent volunteers have here today for the children are wonderful,” Dankovich said.
