Ladies night out set

Canfield Christian Church will host a ladies night out on May 11 at 6 p.m. at the church, 123 S. Broad St., on the Village Green. The evening will include a presentation “My Cup Runneth Over” by Natalie Eastman and dinner. Dinner will include chicken Francaise, baked potatoes, green beans, fruit salad, coffee and tea and homemade pie. Chicken nuggets and buttered noodles will be available for children. Canfield grad featured performer

Molly Makselan, a 2005 graduate of Canfield High School, was a featured performer at Manhattan Repertory Theater from April 18-21. Makselan played a role in an original play production of “Meeting Gigi.” A graduate of Youngstown State University, she has a degree in Fine Arts of Musical Theater. Currently, she is living in New York City and also performs in cabarets in New York City. Ursuline Sisters accepting applications

The Ursuline Sisters of Youngstown are accepting applications for their June 2013 intern/volunteer program. College students or recent graduates 18 and older with a few hours a week to spare and a sincere desire to make a difference in the community are encouraged to apply.

Interns and volunteers really make a difference in the lives of the less fortunate while gaining valuable workplace experience to build their r sum s, having fun, meeting new people and visiting diverse places. Hours are flexible, and participants can extend their experiences beyond June.

Baby sitting class set

The Boardman Park will sponsor a baby-sitting class on May 4 at New Life Assembly of God Church on North Lima Road. The class will be from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and is for 11-15-year-olds. Cost is $40 for Boardman Township residents and $50 for non-residents. Students will learn baby-sitting basic skills, first aid, rescue breathing and more. Students need to provide their own lunch.

Food assistance offered

Every third Thursday of the month, bags of groceries are distributed at the Canfield Presbyterian Church, 140 W. Main St., from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. In order to sign up, you will need to be a resident of Mahoning County and bring a picture I.D., proof of income (dated for 2013) and medical cards or birth certificates for proof of dependent children.

Church hosts garage sale

Western Reserve United Methodist Church, 4580 Canfield Road, will hold its 40th annual garage, attic and0 basement sale on May 3 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and May 4 from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday will be bag day.

Drive-through chicken dinner set

Western Reserve United Methodist Church, 4580 Canfield Road, will host a drive-through chicken dinner on May 2 from 4 p.m. until sold out. The cost is $7 and includes stuffed chicken breast, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans and a brownie.

YSU scholarship applications available

Applications for scholarships to Youngstown State University by the Greater Youngstown Italian Fest are now available by contacting Deborah Mottle at 330-729-0355. Applicants must attend Youngstown State University in order to be eligible. Deadline for applicants is June 1.

Teen driving school set

Tire Rack Street Survival will host a teen driving school on May 5 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Value City Department Store, 1128 Boardman-Poland Road. The program is open to licensed and permitted drivers ages 15-21. Cost is $75 per student.

Students will learn emergency breaking, skid control, how to control unintended over-steer and under-steer and how to avoid accidents. Students will be taught in their own car, not specially-prepared program vehicles, so the skills they learn can be translated to their daily driving experiences.

Easter Seals hosts 5K

Easter Seals will host its ninth annual 5K run/ one-mile walk today at Boardman Park. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. in the Elton Beard Cabin and the walk and run will start at 9:30 a.m. Registration cost is $15 per person; children 12 and under are free. Participants who raise $25 and above will receive an official walk T-shirt.

5K walk set in Austintown

Friends of Fido of the Mahoning County Dog Pound is hosting its first 5K/one mile walk on May 4 at Austintown Township Park. Registration begins at 5 p.m. and the race is at 6:30 p.m., with the mile start to follow. Pre-registration is $16 and is available online at www.imathlete.com. Cost the day of the race is $20.

Canfield summer park program set

The city of Canfield will host its summer park program June 10-28 at Greasel Park. The program, for children 6-12, will be Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Applications must be picked up and turned into the City of Canfield building by May 31.

In addition to application, a copy of the birth certificate must be provided. No applications will be accepted after deadline. The program will include outdoor sports, games and crafts. Speakers from the fire department, Canfield Police, experimental farm and Canfield library will also contribute to the program. This program is for City of Canfield residents and Canfield school students only.

Mommy and Me Tea set for May 5

The Mommy and Me for Tea and Fashion Show will be May 5 from 1 to 3 p.m. at The Lariccia Family Community Center at Boardman Park. Mommy and Me for Tea and Fashion Show is a semiformal tea for girls 3-8 and their mom, grandma or other adult.

Enjoy an afternoon tea with cookies and finger foods. The girls will model their own special outfit of the day and have a professional photographer take a photo for a keepsake.

Tickets are now on sale at the park office. Boardman residents are $14 per couple, non-residents are $16. Additional guests are $6. No tickets will be sold at the door.

Make and take a craft

Children of all ages are invited to create a spring craft during library hours through the month of April.AWBA hosts auction

The annual Chinese auction for the Mill Creek Chapter of American Business Women’s Association will be held at the Ursuline Center at 4280 Shields Road tomorrow from 12:30 to 4 p.m. The doors will open at 12:30 and the drawing will begin at 3 p.m. Ticket holders will have free refreshments and food and drink will be provided.

The donation for a ticket is $5 and you can purchase a ticket at the door or call Judy Codespote at 330-502-9413 for tickets prior to the event.

There will be gifts for children, men and women and special raffles of items greater than $25 in value.

All proceeds will benefit the education fund. Presently, the chapter is sponsoring four students attending schools such as Youngstown State, Kent State and John Carroll University.

Vendors needed for market event

The Junior Women’s League of Canfield is recruiting vendors for the 44th annual Fall Market Event on the Canfield Village Green. This year’s event will take place on Sept. 21 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Participating vendors may range from home-based businesses to art and craft merchandise to non-profit organizations.
