At least 10 hurts in western Pa. bus-train crash

EVANS CITY, Pa. (AP) — Emergency crews say at least 10 people have been hurt in a crash between a rural transit bus and a freight train in western Pennsylvania.

The Butler Area Rural Transit bus was reportedly carrying people with developmental disabilities as part of a reduced-free transportation program run by the Alliance For Nonprofit Resources in Butler. Officials there didn’t immediately return calls today.

Police in Evans City, where the crash occurred about 8:10 a.m. today, say they’re investigating whether dense fog contributed to the crash at the unmarked crossing about 25 miles northwest of Pittsburgh.

Those on the bus were being taken to hospitals, some in the Pittsburgh area including Allegheny General Hospital, which has a major trauma unit.

It was not immediately clear if the bus drove into the train, or vice versa.
