Patrol says Ohio inmate probably committed suicide

The Ohio State Highway Patrol says a prison inmate has died after an apparent suicide.

Patrol spokeswoman Lt. Anne Ralston says the inmate at Toledo Correc-tional Institution was discovered Wednesday afternoon and taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The suicide follows attacks at the prison that left two inmates dead in separate incidents since September.

Trouble at the prison, which opened in 2000 as the state’s newest, has been on the upswing since the prison began bringing in maximum-security prisoners and putting two inmates in each cell to deal with overcrowding statewide.
