Man charged with inducing panic

A Glenwood Avenue man is charged with inducing panic after threatening people blocking his driveway with a moving van with a pellet gun. The dispute occurred about 11:25 a.m. Wednesday at 438 Glenwood. While the weapon turned out to be a pellet gun, the victims told police it looked real.

Arrested by Youngstown police was Vincent M. Uscianowski, 20, who was taken to the Mahoning County jail and charged with inducing panic, a misdemeanor.

Sherrie Wolfe and her brother, Ode Grubb, parked their rented van in the driveway at 438 Glenwood to move her daughter’s belongings out of the home, according to 21 WFMJ TV, The Vindicator’s broadcast partner.

Another woman occupant of the home said she had a doctor’s appointment and told Wolfe and Grubb to move the van. When they refused, saying they needed another 10 minutes, Uscianowski went into the house and to its roof where he brandished the pellet gun, according to a police report.

Police searched the home where they recovered the pellet gun and an H&K MP5 K-PDW .177 air rifle.

Fire of undetermined origin destroyed Ebbert Hardware, a Sandy Lake landmark and one of its oldest buildings, Wednesday, but resulted in no injuries.

Pennsylvania State Police and fire marshal are investigating the cause of the blaze at 3263 S. Main St., which was reported at 1:36 p.m. Firefighters from Mercer, Venango and Crawford counties assisted Sandy Lake Fire and Rescue Co., which cleared the scene at 8:20 p.m.

A variety store and U.S. Postal Service Office adjoining and north of the hardware suffered smoke and water damage but appear to be salvageable, said Daniel Patton, Sandy Lake assistant fire chief.

An estimate of damage to the hardware and its contents and to the other buildings was not available.

Ebbert Hardware was the only hardware in Sandy Lake and will be sadly missed, Patton said.
