Student evaluated mentally after bomb threat at Liberty High School

Police said an 18-year-old student has admitted making a bomb threat that forced the high school to evacuate Wednesday morning.

Police said the student, who is on probation for robbery in Warren, wrote a bomb threat on a bathroom wall Tuesday. The threat said a bomb would explode at the high school at 10 a.m. Wednesday.

Superintendent Stan Watson said police were notified immediately of the threat before they did a walk-through of the school Tuesday afternoon. Watson said the school was on lock-down for about 30 minutes as police investigated. Watson said the threat wasn’t credible, so parents weren’t informed. There was an evacuation of the high school shortly before 10 a.m. Wednesday as a precautionary measure, however.

Police Chief Richard Tisone said police matched the handwriting on the bathroom wall to the suspect’s schoolwork. Watson said the student who was “highly suspected” of being behind the threat did not show up to school Wednesday. Tisone said officers went to his house where he admitted to writing the threat.

He was taken to Trumbull Memorial Hospital in Warren where he was mentally evaluated Wednesday. Police said he may face a felony count of inducing panic.
