Final candidates for YSU president will visit campus in May

The three finalists for Youngstown State University president will visit campus in May.

Randy J. Dunn will visit first on May 2, followed by James D. Moran III on May 6 and William R. Decatur on May 8.

Each will attend open forums with the faculty, academic chairmen and chairwomen and academic senate leadership; forums with students and the university community; and dessert receptions at Stambaugh Stadium with community members, by invitation.

Cynthia E. Anderson, university president, will retire July 1, ending a four-decade career at YSU. In July 2010, she became the university’s first woman, first Mahoning Valley native and first YSU graduate selected president in the university’s 104-year history.

Each candidate in the running to replace her has experience with union negotiations, fundraising and administration.

Dunn, doctor of education, is president of Murray State University in Murray, Ky. He previously served as Illinois’ state superintendent of education and worked as a professor in the Department of Educational Administration and Higher Education at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale.

Moran, doctorate, is vice chancellor for academic and student affairs at the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education in Harrisburg, Pa. He formerly served as interim president of Edinboro University in Edinboro, Pa., and worked as assistant vice president for academic affairs in the University of Tennessee System Office.

Decatur, juris doctorate, is executive vice president for finance and administration of the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence. He formerly worked as senior vice president of finance and administration at Ohio University, executive vice president and interim president at the University of Toledo and as vice president of finance and administration at Georgia State University.
