Youngstown schools, diocese settle transportation issues

The city school board passed a resolution Tuesday settling transportation issues between the district and two Diocese of Youngstown schools.

The district will pay $100 each to 28 students who attend St. Rose School in Girard and Cardinal Mooney High School in the city, in lieu of transportation.

It will be paid by the district to parents of students whose transportation was not provided by Youngstown schools last year.

In other business, the board passed a resolution adopting the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for African Americans.

A community group had been asking the board to adopt the initiative for the last several weeks.

“There’s no financial obligation,” said Richard Atkinson, school-board president. “Once we researched that, I feel comfortable with it.”
