Stolen school bus in western Pa. found, perp not

PITTSBURGH

A school bus stolen from a Pittsburgh company’s lot has been found, but police still don’t know who stole it or why.

The bus was reported stolen from Monarch Bus Co. on Monday. A driver noticed the bus was missing that morning but at first assumed another driver had taken it out early.

When the bus didn’t return, company officials reviewed surveillance video and determined someone drove it out of the lot sometime after 11 p.m. Sunday.

Police say the bus must run for a while so its air brakes will work, so investigators believe whoever took the bus knows something about the vehicles. The flat-nose bus, which carries more than 70 passengers, also is difficult to drive.

Still, police found it Monday evening behind Point Plaza in Butler, about 30 miles north of the city.

Unlicensed ‘mobile dentist’ roamed NM, police say

SANTA FE, N.M.

A man who calls himself “El Dentista” is facing charges after Santa Fe police say the unlicensed tooth doctor was found operating as a “mobile dentist” out of a sedan around town.

The Santa Fe New Mexican reports that 36-year-old Eliver Kestler, also known as Eliver Lopez, was arrested Saturday after a tip from a former customer.

According to police, investigators discovered Kestler with a portable drill machine and other dental equipment in a small, red Chevrolet sedan.

Authorities say Kestler told police that he had a dentistry license in Mexico but no license in the U.S.

Kestler, who was wearing blue hospital scrubs when he met with police, was arrested on a number of charges, including practicing dentistry without a license.

It was unclear if he had an attorney.

Wallabies on the loose in Austria — yes, Austria

VIENNA

Volunteers are searching for a pair of wallabies hopping through Austria — yes, Austria.

The kangaroolike marsupials, which are smaller than “roos” and primarily found in Australia, escaped from a farm in the Upper Austrian countryside, about 110 miles northwest of Vienna.

There actually are three wallabies on the loose — owner Gabrielle Schrammel says the female has a joey in her pouch.

Austrians often express irritation at being confused for Australians while abroad, and mail meant for Australia occasionally surfaces in this central European Alpine country.

Those Vienna souvenir shops selling T-shirts with the slogan “No kangaroos in Austria” might have to start a recall campaign.
