DA: Cadaver dogs ‘hitting’ on spots at Pa. camp

HUNTINGDON, Pa. (AP) — Huntingdon County District Attorney George Zanic says cadaver dogs have “hit” on points of interest at a central Pennsylvania hunting camp where investigators believe a woman last seen in 1999 is buried, though the search for her remains was continuing.

Sixty-five-year-old Kenneth Leighty, of Altoona, owns the land in Warriors Mark Township in Huntingdon County, where crews have been searching for his former daughter-in-law’s remains since Saturday.

Leighty has not been charged in the disappearance of Sherry Jean Leighty, but search warrant affidavits make clear that state police and Huntingdon County investigators believe he’s involved in her disappearance.

Leighty is jailed on charges he attacked police who tried to question him about the case last week and isn’t known to have an attorney.

Leighty was reportedly the last person to see the woman alive in October 1999.
