YOUNGSTOWN

The Mahoning Youngstown Community Action Partnership (MYCAP) recently received excellent audit site reviews for its Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program and the Electric Partnership Program (EPP).

Two on-site representatives of the Internal Revenue Service who visited the MYCAP office unannounced said in a written report that VITA “met all the quality site requirements and volunteer standards of conduct.” Likewise, MYCAP passed the review of a representative from the Ohio Development Services Agency Office of Community Assistance who conducted a two-day Technical Monitoring Report.

Certification awarded

Michael Rinaldi, owner of Rinaldi Physical Therapy, 7000 South Ave., Suite 7, Boardman, was recently awarded a Certification of Spinal Manipulative Therapy (Cert SMT) by the American Academy of Manipulative Therapy. The certification designates Rinaldi as a physical therapist who has completed the required curriculum and training in spinal manipulative therapy and passed oral, written and practical examinations. Hospital recognized

AKRON

Akron Children’s Hospital has earned Quality Respiratory Care Recognition (QRCR) from a national program aimed at helping patients and families make informed decisions about the quality of the respiratory care services available in hospitals. About 15 percent of hospitals in the United States received the award.

The QRCR program was started by the American Association for Respiratory Care in 2003 to help consumers identify those facilities using qualified respiratory therapists to provide respiratory care. Hospitals earning the QRCR designation ensure patient safety by agreeing to adhere to a strict set of criteria governing their respiratory care services.

Blue day at work

In recognition of April being National Child Abuse Prevention Month, the Trumbull County Board of Developmental Disabilities Fairhaven Programs’ staff and participants wore blue to work April 10 to raise awareness about child abuse and neglect.

Also, Fairhaven employees and participants showed their support by raising $170 for the Trumbull County Children Services’ Foster Care Family Emergency Fund, which assists foster families in paying for emergency items or other necessities not covered by typical funding sources. The money was raised on Casual for a Cause Day when staff members donate money to dress casually on pay days.

Superintendent Edward Stark attended the Trumbull County Children Services’ Pinwheels for Prevention Event, where it was reported that there were 1,763 reported cases of child abuse or neglect in 2012. Fairhaven employees donated $2,115 to the Fairhaven Foundation.

Whispering Pines Village, an assisted and independent living facility, achieved excellence in a deficiency-free annual state survey with the Ohio Department of Health for the second consecutive year.
