The Youngstown State women’s sprinters competed at the 28th Jesse Owens Track Classic on Friday and Saturday at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium in Columbus.

Nina Grambling placed second in the 100-meter dash while Ciara Jarrett was third in the 200-meter dash.

Grambling was second in the 100 (11.73 seconds). In of field of 38, she was in front of three Ohio State runners.

Jarrett ran the 200 in 24.23. Grambling finished 11th with a time of 25.11 seconds.

Also, Nicole Pachol was sixth in the 400-meter hurdles (1:03.08) and Laura Kosiorek was 11th in the 100-meter hurdles (14.67).

The women were also third in the 4x100-meter relay as Kosiorek, Jarrett, Alexis Washington and Grambling ran a time of 46.80.

All the Way Drain II early team leader

The Youngstown-Salem Women’s Bowling Association began its 70th annual city tournament and 14th annual 9-pin no-tap tournament at McKinley Lanes.

The team event leader at this time is All the Way Drain II with 2650, while the early leading doubles team comprises Shelia Foreback and Jewel Skelton with 1409. Mary Crain’s 777 is the top singles event score.

The leading no-tap teams are Rockettes I (2924) in Division I and MODS (2735) in Division II.

The tournament will run through May 4.

Boo Timko shoots 208 for runnerup Buckeyes

GLENVIEW, Ill.

The Ohio State men’s golf team finished the final day of the Northwestern Spring Invitational in second with a final round score of 283. The Buckeyes tallied a 54-hole score of 8-under 856 on the par 72, 7,149-yard Glen Club, marking a new team low.

Northwestern took home the team and individual titles with a team score of 20-under 844.

Sophomores Boo Timko and Grant Weaver each notched career-best finishes, coming in second and third, respectively. Timko, a Canfield High product, carded a season low 8-under 208 (71-70-67), having four birdies and one eagle on the day to offset one bogie. Weaver had 6-under 210 (73-69-68) and totaled a team-best 13 birdies.

JFK’s Zallow strong at Mehock Relays

Warren JFK’s Chad Zallow placed first in the 110-meter hurdles (14.5) and fourth in the 300 hurdles to help the Eagles place sixth out of 90 teams from Ohio and Michigan. Zallow joined his brother Carl, Robert Seger and Zach Watt on the third-place 4x400 relay.

Bernie Profato, the Ohio Boxing Commissioner, will be the guest speaker at the Curbstone Coaches meeting.

The group will meet at the Blue Wolfe Catering Hall Monday at noon.

Cleverly retains WBO light-heavyweight title

LONDON

Unbeaten Nathan Cleverly kept his minor WBO light-heavyweight belt by unanimously outpointing German challenger Robin Krasniqi at Wembley Arena on Saturday night.

The judges scored Cleverly’s fifth title defense 120-108, 119-109, and 120-108.

The Welshman improved to 26-0, while the outclassed Krasniqi dropped to 39-3.

Players attacked during pitch invasion

KIDDERMINSTER, England

Pitch-invading soccer fans attacked players and caused a half-hour delay during a fifth-tier match Saturday in the latest bout of crowd trouble in England.

Visiting Stockport supporters raced onto the field after Kidderminster went 1-0 ahead in the 51st minute, confronting players from both teams. The referee decided to take the players off for safety reasons.

The non-league game restarted and Kidderminster won 4-0 to relegate Stockport to the sixth tier.
