Labyrinth walks

The Ursuline Center, 4280 Shields Road, will begin its guided labyrinth walks with a special event Sunday. At 2 and 3 p.m. in the auditorium, there will be presentations on the spirituality and story of labyrinths. Guided outdoor labyrinth walks will follow the theme “In Praise of Spring.” Light refreshments will be served.

From May through September, the labyrinth walks will generally alternate between Tuesday and Thursday nights. The schedule for walks, all at 6:30 p.m., is May 23, June 20, July 16, Aug. 15 and Sept.17. The final guided walks of the season will be at 2 and 3 p.m. Oct. 20.

Anyone wishing to walk the labyrinth but unable to attend a scheduled walk may walk on their own. Guides are provided at the labyrinth’s entrance.

The labyrinth is a ministry of the Ursuline Sisters of Youngstown and open year-round from dawn to dusk for people of faith. There is no cost to use the labyrinth, which is handicapped- accessible.

Special blessing

A blessing of motorcycles and bicycles will be April 28 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Niles, 56 N. Chestnut St., of Hope Lutheran Parish. The blessing will follow worship that begins at 11 a.m.

Lenten vespers

St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church, 305 Struthers-Liberty Road, will host Lenten vespers on the fifth Sunday of Orthodox Lent and the Eastern Orthodox Clergy Association of Mahoning Valley at 5 p.m. Sunday.

Mother Christophora and the Sisters of the Holy Transfiguration Monastery in Ellwood City will sing responses to vespers. A light meal will follow.

A collection will take place to benefit the monastery’s building project and the clergy association.

Discussions set

Higher Praise Covenant Church, 857 N. Park, will host discussions on the topic “The Kingdom” from 7 to 8:15 p.m. Mondays. Apostle Everett Whiteside will lead the teaching.

Scout Sunday

Scouts and leaders of Cub Scout Pack 40 Den 1 will be recognized at a special worship service at 11 a.m. Sunday at First Presbyterian Church, 890 Churchill Road.

Scouts and leaders will share in worship leadership and be honored with special gifts. A coffee hour will follow worship.

Camp Frederick

Camp Frederick, 6996 Mill Rock Road, will host a summer camp open house from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday. Camp Frederick is a Christian camp and retreat center that is used year round. A corporation of 18 churches owns the camp governed by a board of directors.

Those attending may meet the staff and volunteers. There will be tours of the grounds and games.

Men’s musical

The male chorus of Shiloh Baptist Church, 238 Bright Ave., will celebrate its second annual Men’s Musical at 4 p.m. April 28. Local male choirs and soloists will sing. Michael Griffin is choir president.

Friendship tea

The Missionary Society of Third Baptist Church, 1177 Park Hill Drive, will host the annual Angie Johnson Friendship Tea at 1 p.m. Thursday. It is open to all.

Groundbreaking

Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church, 1210 Himrod Ave., will conduct a groundbreaking ceremony at 1:30 p.m. Sunday for its new family life center. The event, which also will mark the 91st church anniversary, will take place after worship at 10:45 a.m. next to the church.

The center will house a computer lab, senior outreach and banquet hall. The new facility will replace the current E.B. Family Life Center located across the street from the church.

May Friendship

May Friendship Day, sponsored by Church Women United, is planned May 3 at Zion Lutheran Church, 3300 Canfield Road. Sign-in will begin at 9:30 a.m. with the program at 10.

Brunch planned

The Ladies Missionary Society of the First Congregational Church of Wayne, 3291 state Route 193, Williamsfield, will sponsor a brunch at 11 a.m. April 27 at Wayne Town Hall, corner of 322 and 193. There will be a basket auction and a guest speaker from Charity Children’s Ministry. The donation-only event will benefit the children’s ministry. Prayer service

St. Mark Lutheran Church, 572 Parkman Road. S.W., will conduct a prayer service at 7 p.m. Wednesday to pray for Saeed Abedini, Alireza Seyyedian, Behnam Irani and Farshid Fathi, four Christian pastors imprisoned in Tehran, Iran.

About afterlife

What role does the after-life play in Christian faith? This question will be the basis for a dinner and discussion April 28 at First Presbyterian Church of Girard, 890 Churchill Road.

EastGate Church, 7107 Warren-Sharon Road, will be launched during a service at 10:30 a.m. Sunday. A luncheon will follow the service. Nursery and children’s program with puppet show will be available.
