300 participants attend Ohio PTA’s 107th Annual Convention

Ohio PTA is in the midst of its 107th Annual Convention this weekend at the Doubletree Hotel, 175 Hutchinson Ave.

The event includes opportunities for PTA members and others to learn about a variety of topics including how to empower children to eat healthy and get active, individualized education plans, drug education for parents, and more.

About 300 participants were expected to attend the event.

Highlights of the convention include installation of the 2013-2015 Ohio PTA Board of Directors and recognition of the Ohio PTA District Educators of the Year and Ohio PTA District Helping Hands and Ohio PTA School Nurse recipients.

Richard Ross, new state superintendent of public education, will be the speaker for the first general session of the event.

Other speakers include Betsy Landers, president of National PTA; Mauricio Velasquez, president of the Diversity Training Group in Herndon, Va.; and Carol Morbitzer, the 2013 Teacher of the Year.

Reflections winners from throughout the state will also be recognized.

The Reflections program is designed to enhance art-education programs and provides opportunities for students to express themselves and to receive positive recognition for their artistic efforts.

The Ohio PTA, a branch of the National PTA, is made up of more than 90,000 members in 586 units.

The Ohio PTA was organized in May 1901.
