Allied Waste strike cancels collection of recyclables in city

Youngstown

The Mahoning County Green Team has suspended curb-side recycling collections in Youngstown because of the Republic/Allied Waste work stoppage. There is no indication when the free service will return because all available resources of Republic/Allied Waste are being allocated to residential garbage collection outside of Youngstown.

If recyclables are at the curb, the city requests that they be returned to the resident’s home until the next scheduled service date. The Green Team is optimistic operations will resume and apologize for the inconvenience. Information and updates will be posted on the Green Team website, www.mahoningcountyoh.gov/tabid/773/default.aspx.

Residential garbage collection in Youngstown is not affected by the strike. Ohio Valley Waste, the sanitation contractor for Youngstown, is following normal pickup schedules. City residents should place their garbage at the curb for their regularly scheduled collection date.
