Sixth annual Suicide Awareness Walk

The sixth annual Survivors of Suicide Awareness Walk is 2 to 4 p.m. May 13 at the Trumbull County Courthouse Gazebo, Courthouse Square in downtown Warren.

Families, friends and the public are invited to attend and are urged to bring photos or signs to highlight the loss of loved ones to suicide. The event will honor the memory of loved ones who died by suicide.

The walk is sponsored by Loving Outreach to Survivors of Suicide (LOSS), Help Hotline Crisis Center, Inc., and Survivors of Suicide (SOS) of Mahoning and Columbiana Counties. For information, call Help Hotline at 800-427-3606.

Senior safety driving program

Shepherd of the Valley is offering “Steering Your Senior Driver,” a free program presented by AAA, geared toward children and families of older adult drivers.

The program, from 11 a.m. to noon on three Saturdays in May, touches on such topics as warning signs to look for with an older driver on the road; when and how to arrange for a driver assessment; alternative transportation options; crash and safety statistics; and how to talk with your senior driver about retiring from driving. Registration is required. Lunch will be served after the program.

Local hero deadline

April 30 is the deadline to nominate a local hero who helped save a life for the American Red Cross of the Mahoning Valley’s 2013 Acts of Courage Awards. To nominate a local hero, call 330-392-2551.

Nominees must reside or be employed in Mahoning or Trumbull counties. The heroic event may have happened anywhere, but must have occurred between April 1, 2012, and April 1, 2013.

Arthritis program

WARREN/CHARDON

The Arthritis Foundation’s newly redesigned program, “Breaking the Pain Chain,” is designed for individuals who want to be active participants in their arthritis management. The interactive educational program, being offered in Warren and Chardon, empowers participants to effectively manage their arthritis and related chronic conditions through an understanding of the pain pathways and the effect pain can have on the physical, emotional and social aspects of life. Participants build a personal Pain Management Plan throughout the four-week course.

Chardon sessions are 3 to 5 p.m. on four consecutive Thursdays, beginning May 2, at the Geauga Family YMCA, 12460 Bass Lake Road.

Warren sessions are 1 to 3 p.m. on four consecutive Wednesdays, starting May 15, at Trumbull Memorial Hos-pital, 1350 E. Market St.

Cleanup day

WARREN

Main Street Warren will have a cleanup day from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday in the downtown district. Volunteers can bring their brooms and gloves to the Gazebo on Historic Courthouse Square at 8:30 a.m., and then walk over to the First United Methodist Church for a free breakfast sponsored by the church.
