City officials said residents should put their garbage outside Sunday night for Monday pickup, instead of Thursday night for Friday pickup. Mayor James Melfi said the change is due to a labor strike at Allied Waste. He said Monday garbage pickups would continue pending the strike. Melfi said residents with questions should call city hall at 330-545-3306.

Volunteers sought

YOUNGSTOWN

The Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corp. is seeking volunteers to help take down dilapidated residential garages in the Idora Neighborhood on Saturday.

The organization is asking volunteers to meet at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the Youngstown Playhouse on Glenwood Avenue, then go to the demolition locations.

Public hearing set

Brookfield

The Brookfield Township Board of Trustees has called a public hearing for 7 p.m. today at the administration building, 6844 Strimbu Drive, to discuss the levying of a motor vehicle license fee.

The board has added a special meeting to follow today’s public hearing.

Earth Day events

WARREN/YOUNGSTOWN

In celebration of Earth Day, Humility of Mary Health Partners is offering free community recycling events at its health centers in Boardman, Warren and Youngstown.

Residents of Warren and surrounding communities can bring documents to be shredded between 9 and 11 a.m. Monday to the parking lot behind St. Joseph Health Center, 667 Eastland Ave. SE.

Likewise, residents of Boardman and surrounding communities may bring documents for shredding and recycling from 1 to 3 p.m. Monday to St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center, 8401 Market St.

Residents of Youngstown and surrounding communities can bring documents for shredding between 9 a.m. and noon April 26 to the Wound Care Center parking lot along Park Avenue at St. Elizabeth Health Center, 1044 Belmont Ave.

In all instances, Cintas Document Management is providing the shredding and recycling services. For information, call 330-480-2048.

Sale of church

545 Management Group Inc., a nonprofit organization, has reached an agreement with Holy Apostles Parish to buy the former Our Lady of Hungary Church property, 545 N. Belle Vista Ave., for $1 plus other considerations.

The agreement is pending until it is approved by the Diocese of Youngstown.

The group plans to reinvent the property as Youngstown Heritage Center Community Campus with an Ethnicities Hall, a Youngstown History Hall and place for community activities.

According to the agreement, the group needs to have funds to cover utilities, insurance and taxes at the time of the property transfer. They set the goal of $50,000 to cover those costs while restoration and improvements are ongoing. The group has set a goal of $300,000 to improve the property.

Donations are being accepted to 545 Management Group at Huntington Bank branches.
