Warren woman holds burglary suspect at gunpoint until cops arrive

A 25-year-old Idylwild Street Northeast woman used her own handgun to detain a 40-year-old female stranger early Tuesday who forced her way into the house and threatened to kill her and her children.

The victim said she answered the door at 4 a.m. after hearing someone banging on the front door.

The suspect, Shannon Stanley of Stewart Circle Northwest, forced her way in, but Stanley and the victim wrestled, and the victim pinned Stanley against a wall, police said.

The victim said she told Stanley “she had kids and that she needed to stop her behavior,” but Stanley said, “I’ll kill your kids and you.”

The victim’s 5-year-old son started to cry, so the victim ran upstairs and grabbed her handgun.

When she returned, Stanley was standing in the living room, so she held her at gunpoint until police arrived.

Stanley was arraigned Tuesday in Warren Municipal Court on an aggravated- burglary charge and was being held in the Trumbull County jail in lieu of $100,000 bond. An innocent plea was entered for her.

If convicted, Stanley faces up to 10 years in prison.
