Fourth Trumbull horizontal well expected for Vienna Township.

Staff report

WARREN

The Trumbull County commissioners are expected to approve a road-use and maintenance agreement today for Halcon Resources of Houston for a horizontal well it plans to drill on Scoville North near state Route 82 in Vienna Township.

The agreement involves upgrades to 2,774 feet of Scoville North between Warren-Sharon Road and state Route 82, as well as 506 feet of Warren-Sharon Road.

Jack Simon of the Trumbull County Engineer’s Office, road-use and maintenance-agreement coordinator for the county, said site preparation is likely to begin this week, but Halcon has not applied for a drilling permit yet.

It is likely to be the fourth horizontal well to be drilled on county or township roads so far. The county engineer’s office isn’t involved with any of several wells being planned for state routes in Trumbull County, Simon said.

Halcon wells on Hayes-Orangeville Road in Hartford Township and Brunstetter Road in Lordstown were drilled earlier. The Lordstown well will be fracked soon, Simon said.

BP America drilled a well for testing purposes in Kinsman Township two weeks ago, but it won’t be a producing well, Simon said. BP also recently started drilling on a property at Ridge Road and state Route 87 in Gustavus Township.

Halcon is likely to have its first Trumbull County production results — for the well on Hayes- Orangeville Road — within two weeks, Simon said.

County Engineer Randy Smith said Tuesday his spokesman for oil and gas road-use issues has resigned. Don Barzak, director of governmental affairs, returned full-time to his financial-planning and life-insurance business Friday, Smith said.
