BOARDMAN

Northern Strut Twirlers recently earned honors at Marching Auxiliaries Regional Competition at Westerville Central High School in Westerville, Ohio.

In the team twirl category, Anngel and Jenna Benson, Shannon Chaffee, Dina Notareschi, Cassidy Oyler and Randi Roof received a Superior 1 rating, choreography and best in class awards.

Madeline Crish, Monica Mattiussi and Kathryn Rosinski earned a Superior 1 rating in the senior division of the twirling ensemble division. In the high school division, Megan Howard, Amanda Orr and Jessica Yozwiak received a Superior 1.

In the color guard solo category, six girls won Superior 1 ratings with Rosinski winning the 11th- and 12th-grade division; Karlie Kowal, first runner-up; Alyssa Thomas, second runner-up; and Madi Zickefoose, third runner-up. In the ninth- and 10th-grade division, Alyssa Blosser was third runner-up and Autumn Busse, fourth runner-up.

All twirlers in the twirling solo category received Superior 1 ratings.

Other placements were Yozwiak, high school winner, and Jenna Benson, second runner-up. In the 11th- and 12th-grade division, Crish was winner; Shannon Chaffee, first runner-up; Mattiussi was second; Rosinski, third; and Zickefoose, fourth.

In the ninth- and 10th-grade division, Tara Schuster was second and Oyler and Roof tied for third. Rachel Stahl was second runner-up in the seventh- and eighth-grade division. Caylee Catcott was the winner in the first- through third-grade division; and Adele Colonna was the winner in the pre K-K division.

The team was established in 1995 and trains at Astre Total Fitness in Boardman. It is under the direction of Janet Gbur with flag instruction by Phemie Colonna.

Other instructors are Kelly Brothers, Katie Brown and Rebecca Platt.
