David Pepper files candidacy for Ohio attorney general

YOUNGSTOWN

David Pepper, a former Hamilton County commissioner and Cincinnati councilman, is the first official Democratic candidate for the 2014 election.

Pepper, who’s campaigned statewide for more than a year including a March 26 visit to Youngstown, filed paperwork today with the Ohio Secretary of State’s Office declaring himself a candidate for attorney general. The seat is currently held by Republican Mike DeWine, who plans to run for re-election.

While saying his Monday announcement isn’t meant to attack DeWine, he said the incumbent’s recent statements that he supports exempting private business owners with religious objections from providing birth control to their workers “is the kind of stuff that undermines the position.”
