Pennwriters to meet for workshop

SHARON, PA.

Shenango Valley Pennwriters has rescheduled its March workshop, Make Time to Write, from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Community Library of Shenango Valley, 11 N. Sharpsville Ave.

Catherine E. McLean will be the facilitator for the interactive discussion and writing session, and will cover reasons why writers can’t find the time to write as well as offer solutions that have been proven to work.

SVP meets from 1 to 4 p.m. the third Saturday each month at the library. The workshop is free. Take paper and pen for notes and participating in exercises. There will be refreshments and door prizes.

‘Masterpiece’ producer gets a book deal

NEW YORK

A longtime producer at PBS is ready to pull back the curtains on “Downton Abbey” and other “Masterpiece” favorites.

Rebecca Eaton, executive producer of the “Masterpiece” series for more than a quarter- century, has a deal with Viking for “Making Masterpiece: 25 Years Behind the Scenes of Masterpiece Theatre and Mystery!”

The publisher announced Wednesday that the book will come out Oct. 29. Patricia Mulcahy will co-write “Making Masterpiece.”

According to Viking, Eaton will share stories about Daniel Radcliffe, Maggie Smith and other performers, and will write about such popular programs as “Downton Abbey” and “Prime Suspect.” Productions from “Masterpiece” have won numerous Emmy, Peabody and Golden Globe awards.

Brooklyn-based poet wins Whitman prize

NEW YORK

A Brooklyn-based poet has won a prize named for one of the New York City borough’s most famous former residents, Walt Whitman.

The Academy of American Poets announced recently that Chris Hosea has won the Walt Whitman Award for a debut collection. Hosea will receive $5,000 and his book, “Put Your Hands In,” will be published by Louisiana State University Press.

The winner was chosen by one of the greatest contemporary poets, John Ashbery. The Whitman award was established in 1975.
