Eagle Award

Matthew Thomas Carubia, son of Jennifer Carubia of Boardman, will earn his Eagle Scout certification today at a ceremony at St. Charles Church in Boardman. Boy Scout Troop 60, Westminster Presbyterian Church, Boardman, will bestow the honor.

Matthew was a member of Cub Scout Pack 114 for five years at St. Charles Church and received his Arrow of Light in 2006. He joined Troop 60 on Feb. 27, 2006. He has held troop positions of assistant senior patrol leader, patrol leader, assistant patrol leader and librarian. Matthew has earned 25 merit badges and special Scout awards of Totin’ Chip, Camp Seven Ranges fifth-year pipestone award, Gettysburg historical hike patch and a Valley Forge pin. He recently received a seven-year service pin from his troop.

His Eagle Scout project involved the planning, oversight and building of book carts for the Akron Children’s Hospital Teen Outreach program. Matthew’s carts replaced an aging cart that no longer was meeting the needs of the program.
