Lew Speece Invitational

BERLIN CENTER

Wyatt Hartman set a meet record in the 800-meter run (2:00.90), helped the Maplewood Rockets win the 4x800 relay and finished second in the 1600 and 4x400 relays to lead the Rockets to the team title. Mineral Ridge was second. On the girls side, Gilmour Academy and Garfield finished 1-2.

East Palestine Invitational

EAST PALESTINE

West Branch’s Lea Bock was named the Field MVP at Saturday’s East Palestine Invitational track meet. Bock finished first in the shot put (94-8) and discus (35-1). Martin Luther King Jr.’s Ta’Shay Appling was the running MVP for finishing first in the 100- and 200-meter races. She also was a member the winning 4x100 and 4x200 relay teams.

BASEBALL

Cardinal Mooney 10, Hubbard 0

STRUTHERS

Joe Cunningham tossed a five-inning no-hitter to lead Mooney. He struck out eight and walked one. Jon Saadey went 2-for-2 with two stolen bases while Drew Beck, Gino DiVincenzio and Dom Dundee each doubled.

Cle. St. Ignatius 14, Canfield 3

STRUTHERS

Colton Crissman had two hits and two RBIs and Kyle Nagy doubled for Canfield (2-5), which fell in five innings at Cene Park.

Mineral Ridge 7, Girard 6

GIRARD

Dan Ferguson hit a two-run homer and Jared Gherardi pitched five scoreless innings in relief to lift Mineral Ridge, which rallied from a 6-2 deficit after two innings. Dan Graziano hit a two-run double for Girard (2-6) and Christian Bello pitched three innings of shutout relief.

Springfield 10, Salem 6

NEW MIDDLETOWN

James Hillyer had two hits and two RBIs and Springfield scored six runs in the bottom of the fifth to rally. Cody Pitzo added two hits for the Tigers (5-1) while Dalton Donache and Eoghan Bees each had two RBIs. For Salem, Jake Carner had two hits and Jordan McGuire had two RBIs.

East Palestine 16, Youngstown Christian 2

YOUNGSTOWN

Blaze Chamberlain had two hits and three RBIs and Nate Keyler and Drew Wilson each had two doubles and two RBIs for the Bulldogs. For YCS (0-2), Jacob Trella tripled.

Lowellville 7, Jackson-Milton 5

NORTH JACKSON

Spiro Schialdone, Joe Smith and Phil Alfano each had three hits for the Rockets (6-2) in Friday’s game. Alfano drove in two runs while Marcus Rivera drove in three with two hits. For the Bluejays (5-3), Nick Woloshack had two hits and drove in a run.

SOFTBALL

Ursuline 10, Ashtabula Lakeside 1

LIBERTY

Ursuline’s Makayla Shore threw a two-hitter with 10 strikeouts and added three hits, including a double. Also for the Irish (6-1), Christana Xenakis had two hits and Anny Carroll had two RBIs. Sarah George doubled for Lakeside (1-5).

Boardman 8, Cardinal Mooney 1

BOARDMAN

Freshman Sidney Aey earned her first varsity win with a two-hit, nine-strike-out performance for Boardman. Katie Seeco and Katelynn Morrell each had two hits and Megan Jones homered. For Mooney, Jamie DiFabio broke up the no-hit bid with a double in the seventh.

Austintown Fitch 11, Boardman 3

BOARDMAN

Fitch collected 12 hits with Callahan hitting a two-run homer in the first inning to lead the Falcons. Mikovitch and Callahan had three hits. For Boardman, Megan Jones was 2-for-2 with a triple and a homer.

Brookfield 12, Niles 4

NILES

Ashleigh Vivo hit a two-run homer for the Warriors (2-1). Winning pitcher Lyndsey Berecek struck out four batters. Hayley Hogue doubled and drove in two runs. Ciara Rotunno also had two RBIs.

Mathews 3, Fort LeBoeuf 2

VIENNA

Maddie Williams’ two-run double in the bottom of the sixth helped Mathews (5-0) rally. Cheyenne Eggens (5-0) tossed a three-hitter with 10 strikeouts to get the win. Amanda Krolczyk pitched a three hitter for LeBoeuf (4-1), which hails from Erie, Pa. Amanda Banta doubled, homered and drove in two.

West Branch 9, Crestview 0

BELOIT

Cheyenne Miller tossed a two-hitter with seven strikeouts and no walks for West Branch (7-1). Miller also hit two homers and drove in four, while Reagan Rito singled, doubled and homered. Sarah Koehler doubled for Crestview.
