Library hosts Angry Bird event

Children in grades K-6 had the opportunity to defeat the bad piggies in an Angry Bird event on April 2 at the Boardman library.
The event began with children having a chance to play the Angry Bird game on the iPad, with a projector screen for the viewers to watch.
“Angry Birds is a popular game and brings children of all ages together,” said librarian John Yingling.
It was a first for the library.
“Other libraries have done this and have been successful, so we decided to try it out, “ said Yingling.
After students played the virtual Angry Birds game, they played the game in real life. Teams of two flung plush Angry Birds into cardboard towers using a catapult made from Angry Bird towels. The goal was to aim for and take out the various bad piggies hidden throughout the towers. Once the towers were completely knocked down, the kids built them back up again.
“The event promotes creativity and teamwork,” said Yingling.
Finally, participants made a craft to take home. The craft was a slingshot made from a Dixie cup and balloon. After decorating their slingshots, the children tried to knock down Dixie cup towers with a colored cotton-ball Angry Bird using their newly-made slingshot.
