The Boardman library hosted the Springfield Capital Campaign Committee’s book review fundraiser in its meeting room April 6 to benefit the Springfield library.
The fundraiser, which offered a free “I Love My Library” mug, included a selection of homemade cupcakes and other baked goods, as well as tea and coffee. After receiving refreshments, patrons of the fundraiser settled in to hear a review of “House Calls and Hitching Posts: Stories from Dr. Elton Lehman’s Career Among the Amish” as told to Dorcas Sharp Hoover. The review was given by Irene Olen, a retired school teacher of the Springfield community.
“Irene only gives reviews for this event,” said Deborah Liptak, Developmental Director for the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County. “She does it because the Springfield library is her library and she loves to help out her community.”
The book review event is hosted every year, although this was the first time it was offered at the Boardman library location. This event, along with several others throughout the year, go toward helping the Springfield Capital Campaign Committee’s goal of raising $100,000 for the Springfield library branch.
