The Hubbard Public Library, located on West Liberty Street, is hosting its fourth annual open house Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. The open house will offer tutorials for reading tablets and music downloads, arts and crafts and community surveys for visitors to fill out. Light refreshments also will be served.

Farewell to Lloyd

To say farewell to Lloyd Elementary School, the Austintown Local School District will have a farewell celebration from 5:30 to 7 p.m next Wednesday at the school, 5705 Norquest Blvd.

The school has been in the community for 58 years, and all public, past faculty, administration and alumni are invited to attend. Tours of the building will be available. The event is free and sponsored by the staff and the Lloyd Parent Teacher Association. The school will be consolidated with other elementary schools.

Holocaust event

The Jewish Community Relations Council will conduct the 20th annual community Holocaust commemoration event at noon Thursday in the rotunda of the Mahoning County Courthouse.

The annual Shoah Memorial Ceremony will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at the Jewish Community Center, 505 Gypsy Lane. The ceremony will feature the premiere of a film about the life of Holocaust survivor Bill Vegh.

Health forum

Dr. Darrel Lynn Grace and Johnnie Allen, health equity director for the Ohio Department of Health, are keynote speakers for the Youngstown Office on Minority Health’s “What is Public Health” forum from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday at the Youngstown City Health District, (YCHD) Oakhill Renaissance Place, 345 Oak Hill Ave.

Other items on the agenda include: “What is Public Health” discussed by the YCHD directors; “Compassionate Care,” Margaret Sanders, Northeast Ohio Medical University; “Years of Potential Life Lost,” Dr. Lashale Pugh, Youngstown State University; and “Diabetes: A Major Epidemic,” Dr. Grace, a local physician.
