Recruiter in murder-suicide was 9-year veteran
ROCKVILLE, Md. (AP) — The Army says a military recruiter who shot and killed a recruit in what police are calling a murder-suicide was a 9-year veteran who had served overseas in Korea, Germany and Turkey.
Staff Sgt. Adam Arndt was found dead of a gunshot wound Monday morning inside his Germantown home. Also dead was 17-year-old Michelle Miller, a senior at Rockville High School. Police believe Arndt fatally shot Miller before killing himself.
Miller was signed up to enter the Army Reserves after graduation.
The 31-year-old Arndt was a native of Manitowoc, Wis. He was deployed to Turkey from September 2009 to September 2010. Since January 2011, he had been detailed to a recruiting office in Columbia, Md. His duties included visiting schools. Army recruiters are barred from having personal relationships with recruits.
