Man charged

Boardman

A Glenwood Avenue man is charged with felonious assault and domestic violence, accused of stabbing a family member during an argument.

Ricardo R. Wallace, 54, was arrested Friday afternoon.

The victim, who is Wallace’s cousin and who also lives in the same apartment, said the two argued about expenses at the apartment and Wallace tried to hit her with a dining-room chair and then tried to stab her in the head with a kitchen knife.

The woman extended her hand and was cut on her hand and her right temple.

Wallace left the apartment before police arrived and was arrested later in Youngstown.

He is scheduled to appear this morning in Mahoning County Area Court in Boardman.

Weekend fires

JOHNSTON

Firefighters from Johnston and Brookfield townships were especially busy over the weekend, with each battling two brush fires.

Johnston firefighters assisted with a Saturday-afternoon barn and house fire on North Park Extension in Mecca Township that authorities believe was intentionally set.

At 8:20 p.m. Saturday, they were called to 5090 Ridge Road for a brush fire, followed by a much larger brush and log fire at 9:08 p.m. at 5109 state Route 193.

The department remained at that scene until about 12:30 a.m. Sunday and had help from several other townships in putting it out.

Because of dry and windy conditions, firefighters from Brookfield, Champion and other areas also battled brush fires over the weekend, according to Trumbull County 911.
