DA: $1M pike stop likely largest in W. Pa. county

SOMERSET, Pa. (AP) — A district attorney says she’s “almost certain” that $1 million worth of heroin allegedly found when a Pittsburgh man’s car was stopped on the Pennsylvania Turnpike is the largest drug seizure ever in the county.

Online court records don’t list an attorney for 27-year-old Warren Green IV, of Pittsburgh, who faces a preliminary hearing April 16 in Somerset.

Green has been jailed since he was stopped for speeding on Friday, but Somerset County District Attorney Lisa Lazzari-Strasiser and state police called a news conference Monday to discuss the bust because of its size.

They say police found 1,000 bricks of heroin in Green’s trunk. Each brick consists of 50 single-dose bags — meaning 50,000 doses valued at $20 each were seized.

Investigators aren’t saying where Green got the drugs or where he was taking them.
