Goat that walked into Mont. bar was taken from zoo
BUTTE, Mont.
So the goat that walked into a Montana bar last weekend ... was stolen from a petting zoo.
Fairmont Hot Springs Resort general manager Steve Luebeck says staffers knew the goat was missing but didn’t realize it had been stolen until they saw a story in The Montana Standard last week reporting that a goat had been taken into a Butte bar earlier in the week.
The pygmy goat, named Shirley, was returned to the resort’s petting zoo.
Luebeck told The Standard he had never had an animal stolen from the zoo, which has goats and miniature horses. He said zoo managers would like to know who took the animal so they can press charges.
Freezing weather wipes out German flea circus
BERLIN
An entire troupe of performing fleas has fallen victim to the freezing weather currently gripping Germany.
Flea-circus director Robert Birk said he was shocked to find all of his 300 fleas dead inside their transport box one morning last week.
The circus immediately scrambled to find and train a new batch so it could fulfill its engagements at an open-air fair in the western town of Mechernich-Kommern.
Michael Faber, who organizes the fair, told The Associated Press that an insect expert at a nearby university was able to provide 50 fleas in time for the first show Sunday.
Faber said he hopes they’ll “get through this without any more fatalities.”
Birk said it was the first time his circus had lost all of its fleas to the cold in one go.
