CANFIELD

The Ohio Army National Guard’s 838 Military Police Co. will have a Call to Duty ceremony at noon today for 130 soldiers from the unit who will deploy to Afghanistan for one year after attending training at Camp Shelby, Miss.

U.S. Rep. Timothy Ryan of Niles, D-13th, will be among the speakers at the event at Old North Church Worship Center, 7105 Herbert Road, Canfield.

“It is an honor for me to help pay tribute to the sacrifices these soldiers and their families have already made, and will continue to make in their current deployment. My thoughts and prayers are with the members of the 838th and their families as they leave to serve and defend our country,” Ryan said.

Car crash update

WARREN

The Ohio State Highway Patrol, Warren Mayor Doug Franklin, Warren Police Chief Tim Bowers and Warren City Schools Superintendent Michael Notar will have a joint press conference at 1 p.m. today at the highway patrol’s Southington barracks to update the public on the investigation into the car crash on Niles Warren River Road on March 10 that killed six teenagers.

Man bound over

GIRARD

A Youngstown man appeared in municipal court on felonious- assault charges stemming from a February shooting outside a club in Liberty.

Judge Jeffrey D. Adler bound over Richard J. Armstrong, 20, of Price Road, to Trumbull County Common Pleas Court for further proceedings during a preliminary hearing Wednesday.

Armstrong is accused of shooting Quentin Lamont Boone, 18, of Struthers, outside Club Remix, located in the 3200 block of Belmont Avenue, on Feb. 24.

Armstrong is free on $50,000 bond.

Fundraiser planned

Precious Ones Family Resource Center is having its second annual fundraiser banquet, “Bringing About Change: Physically, Spiritually, and Emotionally,” on Saturday at 6 p.m. at Antone’s Banquet Center, 8578 Market St.

The keynote speaker is Mahoning County Commissioner Anthony T. Traficanti.

Tickets are $30 each and $180 for a table of eight. For tickets, charitable donations and information, call 330-743-1486. A portion of the tickets and charitable donation are tax deductible. All proceeds will directly support Precious Ones Family Resource Center, the mission of which is to improve health, social, educational, cultural enrichment and economic growth for families.

Incident investigated

WARREN

Police are investigating allegations that a 15-year-old Southern Boulevard boy committed felony aggravated vehicular assault, misdemeanor assault and discharging firearms in the city limits Tuesday afternoon near his home. Lt. Jeff Cole of the Warren Police Department said there were no injuries and no charges filed as of Wednesday morning.

Cole declined to provide any details of the incident, which was reported at 5:44 p.m. at 1037 Southern Boulevard NW.

A police report states that a 14-year-old Warren boy, 16-year-old Warren boy and 15-year-old Niles boy were victims of the assaults.

Visit set for Friday

MERCER, PA.

Representatives of the Federal Office of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration will visit at 9 a.m. Friday with program personnel of the Mercer County Behavioral Health Commission, 8406 Sharon-Mercer Road.

Federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration personnel will study the success of integration of the local Mercer County human service system. Programs to be highlighted are MCBHC prevention, blended case management, recover support, mobile psychiatric nursing, forensic intervention and intake and assessment.
