The Catholic Charities Regional Agency, serving Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties, has been approved for a $2,000 grant from the Wells Fargo Housing Foundation’s Charitable Committee to provide foreclosure counseling and prevention.
CCRA is a HUD-approved housing counseling agency with certified housing counselors who assist with foreclosure prevention activities and budgeting and default management. For information about the program, call 330-744-3320 to speak to a housing counselor.
Candidate forum
Youngstown
The South Side Coalition and the Sheridan Block Watch will host a candidate forum from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. next Wednesday in the Newport branch library, 3730 Market St. Youngstown mayoral candidates Jamael Tito Brown and John McNally IV will appear at the forum.
Pachyderms to face police in contest
YOUNGSTOWN
Four elephants from Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey circus will take on six Youngstown police officers at 2 p.m. Thursday in a doughnut-eating contest in the Covelli Centre parking lot. The event is open to the public.
Kids from the Youngs-town Police Athletic League will receive free tickets to the circus as part of this event.
The circus will have performances at 3 and 7 p.m. Friday; and 11 a.m., 3 and 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the center.
Discussion planned
WARREN
The Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership neighborhood discussion for Northeast Warren and the Garfield neighborhood will be at 6:30 p.m. today at Lincoln K-8 school on Atlantic Street Northeast.
The discussion is about use of vacant houses and lots in the city. Those attending are asked to enter through the back of the school.
Open house
WARREN
An open house will be 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at Christ Episcopal Church, 2627 Atlantic St. NE, for the Trumbull County location of Diva Donations. The event is timed to help girls with gowns for prom.
The nonprofit organization helps females of all ages rent a dress for any formal occasion. The public also may donate formal gowns at the open house.
Special meeting
Columbiana
The Crestview school board will have a special meeting at 6 p.m. today in the high school home economics room, 44100 Crestview Road, Columbiana. The meeting previously was announced to take place in the Performing Arts Center.
